Swan
The body of the swan from the beak to tail is a coil and the wings are slabs. I painted slip on to smooth the inside and strengthen the connections. The feather details are from the tip of a pencil eraser and the rest are from a nail art tool. I wanted to make a sculpture that was purely decorative and was inspired by ceramic swans I’ve seen in antique furniture stores. My goal was to make it appear delicate and to maintain a strong build so I made sure everything was attached properly. I shaved down the bottom which was originally thick to take off some weight. To achieve the antique look I glazed it with CY108 (Cactus Sand) for a weathered off-white. It was hard to paint the glaze on the inside but it came out very even.
